Interacting with our Communities

We are an integral part of our local communities generating employment, skills training and long-term sustainable economic opportunities both during and after the closure of our natural resources operations.  We seek to nurture mutual respect and trust while building long-term relationships.  To achieve this we will:

• Interact in a timely and respectful manner by listening to and understanding local issues;
• Ensure that our local communities are properly consulted regarding any development proposal that may have a social, cultural, economic or historical impact;
• Identify and maximize the economic benefit to local communities through the preferential employment and training of local residents and support of local businesses;
• Contribute towards education, health, training and employment programs for local communities;
• Ensure that our activities are conducted with sensitivity to local peoples' rights and interests.

If you look through the galliers to the left you will see that we have been quite closely involved with many local communities.  There is indeed much more that we have done and as our operations develop in the years ahead we anticipate that our direct contribution to local communites will increase significantly.
